Upcoming Changes in 2014 for the
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) and New York State Law require that starting January 1, 2014, all individual health insurance plans include a core set of health services (known as essential health benefits) and offer more cost-sharing choices. While EmblemHealth's individual plans already offer many of these benefits, we will be replacing our current product portfolio with new, fully ACA-compliant plans.
On December 31, 2013, all of EmblemHealth's existing plans to individuals will be discontinued. As of January 1, 2014, EmblemHealth will offer new plans that will meet the ACA requirements.
We have filed our new individual policies (for sale on and outside the Exchange) and premium rates with the New York Department of Financial Services. Information about our premium rates for individual policies sold outside the Exchange is available on the Department of Financial Services Web site.
In the coming days and no later than July 31, 2013, we will be mailing letters announcing the discontinuance to affected individuals. This will provide ample time for individuals to consider their options in the marketplace.
For your reference, we've attached a sample of the subscriber communication.
More information about EmblemHealth's individual products is available on emblemhealth.com and the New York Health Benefit Exchange.
If you have questions about the plan discontinuance, please contact your EmblemHealth representative.
