Screening Electrocardiogram for Coronary Disease

According to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, it is not appropriate to screen for coronary disease in asymptomatic adult patients. Therefore, when an electrocardiogram (ECG), CPT code 93000, is billed in the office setting (POS 11) for a patient 18 years of age or older and the only diagnosis is a general medical exam diagnosis (ICD-10 diagnosis codes Z00.0-Z00.01, Z00.5-Z00.8, Z02.0-Z02.6, Z02.8-Z02.89, Z04.6), or a cardiovascular screening diagnosis (ICD-10 code Z13.6), the ECG will be denied.
